Dan Kobin, the founder and owner of AES NYC, asked me to introduce his company’s capabilities through the character of Toby, an intern tasked with finding a venue in New York City on short notice. Toby’s experience underscores the common challenges encountered in event planning, including tight deadlines, high expectations, and limited resources.
With over 81,000 sq. ft of available space, AES NYC emerges as the solution to these challenges, showcasing its expertise in venue management and sourcing. Toby’s journey underscores how AES NYC transforms event planning stress into seamless success.
Designing Toby
I’ve been a freelance illustrator since 2004, mostly doing editorial and infographic based illustration. It wasn’t until 2016 that I added animation as one of the design services I offer. One of the great perks of trying something new is the chance to work in different disciplines. Like character design. Which is not something I’ve done a ton of.
Inspired by classic cartoon characters of the 1950’s and 60’s, as well as contemporary designs, here’s a bit of how I developed “Toby the Intern”, who’s looking at a long night of searching for event spaces in NYC. Luckily, there’s a happy ending.
